Midday Stock Roundup: MDxHealth Plunges 48% on Resolve Discontinuation

Staar up 11% after Q1 earnings beat; Alignment Healthcare down 24% since April 30

HEALTHCARE

Irvine-based MDxHealth SA plunged 48% to $1.01 per share with a $52.8 million market cap. In yesterday’s first quarter earnings, the medical diagnostics company announced that it would discontinue its Resolve UTI offering and lab operations in Plano, Texas due to challenges with reimbursement (Nasdaq: MDXH).

Staar Surgical Co. was up 11% to $32.79 for a market cap of $1.6 billion after posting first quarter results yesterday. The Lake Forest-based eye lens maker yesterday reported revenue increased 120% to $93.5 million, exceeding the $77.4 million expected by analysts (Nasdaq: STAA).

Orange-based Alignment Healthcare, a Medicare Advantage provider for seniors, fell 7% to $17 for a market cap of $3.5 billion. Shares of Alignment are down more than 24% since reporting first quarter earnings on April 30. The company’s second-quarter revenue guidance ranged from $1.295 billion to $1.315 billion, with the low end falling short of analysts’ $1.31 billion average estimate (Nasdaq: ALHC).

RETAIL

Tillys Inc. rose 10% to $3.99 with a market cap of $122 million. Shares of the Irvine-based clothing company are up ahead of its first quarter results announcement scheduled for June 3 (NYSE: TLYS).

ADVERTISING

Viant Technology dropped 6.4% to $10.11 apiece with a market cap of $646 million (Nasdaq: DSP). The Irvine-based digital ad company reported this week Q1 quarterly earnings of 7 cents per share, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 8 cents per share.

TECHNOLOGY

Bimergen Energy Corp. is up 23% to $2.47 apiece with a $20 million market cap. The Newport Beach-based company, which is using massive batteries to store electricity to relieve aging U.S. grids, plans to discuss its Texas projects and $2 billion battery storage pipeline May 18 in Los Angeles, where Co-CEO Bob Brilon will speak at the investor conference, LD Micro 16th Annual Invitational. (NYSE American: BESS).

MANUFACTURING

PMGC Holdings Inc. is up 8% to $2.04 a piece with a $9.1 million market cap (Nasdaq: ELAB). The Newport Beach-based holding company that is building a platform of aerospace manufacturing firms and machine shops continued its rollup strategy, announcing today the acquisition of A&B Aerospace, Inc. The Azusa-based precision machining and aerospace manufacturing company specializes in high-tolerance parts and assemblies for the aerospace industry.

The Nasdaq is up 1.14%to 26,386.31

Crude oil is down 1.15% to $101.01 a barrel

SEMICONDUCTORS

Irvine-based chipmaker Skyworks Solutions fell 6.7% to $65.42 per share for a market cap of $9.8 billion. Despite the drop, Skyworks shares have gained 16% over the last month as demand for semiconductors surges (Nasdaq: SWKS).

PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS

Printed circuit board maker TTM Technologies in Santa Ana fell 7.3% to $151.08 per share for a market cap of $15.7 billion, pulling back from the gains of more than 60% it has chalked up over the last month (Nasdaq: TTMI).

INDEXES

The Nasdaq dropped 2% to 25,759.18.

MARKETS

The price for a barrel of oil surged 4% to $101.91 as tensions between U.S. and Iran flared up, apparently with no quick solution in sight.

Gold fell 1.1% to $4,676.80.

The 10-year Treasury bond was up 1.1% at 4.46%.

TECHNOLOGY 

Netlist Inc., a computer memory products maker, surged 15% to $3.50 apiece with a $1.1 billion market cap on Monday ahead of its first quarter earnings report scheduled for the next day, May 12 (OTCQB: NLST). One analyst is expecting the Irvine-based company’s revenue to increase 172.6% to $79 million for the period ended March 28.  

Volume was almost double the daily average at 2,892,907.  

MANUFACTURING 

Aliso Viejo-based indie Semiconductor Inc. rose 7.7% to $4.63 with a $991 million market cap (Nasdaq: INDI). The chip company announced on Monday it will acquire the CMOS image sensor product line from Austrian manufacturer ams OSRAM for 40 million euros, or about $47.1 million.  

“Together, these technologies broaden our offerings, opens new customer opportunities, and positions indie to capture a larger share of the rapidly emerging physical AI market,” said Mark Tyndall, executive vice president of corporate development and investor relations.  

TECHNOLOGY 

Irvine-based Shimmick Corp dropped 22% to $4.47 apiece and a $164 market cap (Nasdaq: SHIM). Shares are now down 34% since reaching a 52-week high of $6.76 a share on April 28. Volume was more than three times the daily average. 

MARKETS/INDEXES 

Crude oil was up 4.4% to $99.66 a barrel.  

EMPLOYMENT 

Xperience Restaurant Group (XRG), doing business as FM Restaurants HQ, will permanently close its El Torito restaurant in Irvine on MacArthur Boulevard to the public on May 30. The location will permanently shut down by June 10, affecting 56 employees, according to workforce filings.

ENGINEERING 

Anaheim-based Willdan Group Inc. rose 14% to $84.97 with a market cap of $1.3 billion. Shares in the energy efficiency and engineering services firm are up after coming out with first quarter revenue of $92.43 million, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.22%. EPS of 91 cents per share also beat the consensus estimate of 81 cents per share (Nasdaq: WLDN).

FRANCHISE

Xponential Fitness Inc. fell 15% to $5.55 and a $296.8 million market cap. The Irvine-based fitness studio franchisor yesterday reported that first quarter revenue dropped 21% year-over-year to $61 million while same-store sales also decreased 6% (NYSE: XPOF).

INDEXES

Crude oil rose 1.2% to $95.93 per barrel.

HEALTHCARE

RxSight Inc. dropped 19% to $5.48 and a $226.6 million market cap. The Aliso Viejo maker of lenses for cataracts yesterday reported that first quarter revenue decreased by 18.5% to $30.9 million (Nasdaq: RXST).

Tarsus Pharmaceuticals Inc. fell 5% to $61.47 and a $2.6 billion market cap. Shares in the Irvine-based biopharmaceutical company were down despite reporting revenue of $162.05 million for the first quarter, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 9.6% (Nasdaq: TARS).

TECHNOLOGY

Lantronix Inc. was down 17% to $5.64 apiece and a $223.5 million market cap. The Irvine-based computer networking products maker’s third quarter revenue of $30.2 million and EPS of 4 cents per share both fell below estimates yesterday (Nasdaq: LTRX).

ENVIRONMENTAL

Onterris Inc., formerly known as Montrose Environmental Group, fell 19% to $17.66 and a $642 million market cap after the company’s first quarter results missed analysts’ expectations (NYSE: ONT).

Crude oil fell 1.48% to $93.67 per barrel.

TECHNOLOGY
Skyworks Solutions is down 12% to $63.61 a share with a market cap of $9.6 billion after releasing second-quarter earnings on Tuesday. The Irvine-based chipmaker posted revenue of $943.7 million, down from $953.2 million for the same period last year. Analysts raised concerns over the company’s higher inventory levels, indicating weak demand for their products (Nasdaq: SWKS).

RESTAURANTS 
BJ’s Restaurants rose 4% to $39.82 apiece for a market cap of $837 million. The Huntington Beach-based casual dining chain reported Tuesday that first-quarter revenue rose 2.9% to $358 million, beating the consensus analysts’ estimate of $356.9 million (Nasdaq: BJRI).

Shares of Cerritos-based GEN Restaurant Group Inc. are up 18% to $2.25 with a market cap of $73 million. The Korean BBQ brand, whose flagship restaurant is in Tustin, said today that its products are now being served at Knott’s Berry Farm and Downtown Disney venues. Earlier in the week, the company said that its ready-to-heat foods were expanding to Stater Bros. stores (Nasdaq: GENK).

BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Shares in Newport Beach-based beauty products company Evolus Inc. rose 16% to $6.47 apiece for a market cap of $426 million. The company on Monday reported first-quarter revenue of $73.1 million, exceeding analysts’ estimates (Nasdaq: EOLS).

HEALTHCARE

Orange-based Alignment Healthcare, a Medicare Advantage provider for seniors, fell 6.4% to $18.03 apiece for a market cap of $3.7 billion. Company executives reportedly said on Monday they expect a short delay in risk adjustment changes (Nasdaq: ALHC).

MARKETS

The price for a barrel of oil fell 3.9% to $102.25

ENVIRONMENT 

Shares of the newly named Onterris Inc., previously known as Montrose Environmental Group, fell 4.3% to $21.19 and a $764 million market cap (NYSE: ONT). The environmental services firm, with most of its executives based in Irvine, started trading under its new name and ticker on MondayNetlist up 9.2%; Callaway Golf, Six Flags, Lantronix down ahead of Q1 reports, May 4.  

TECHNOLOGY 

Irvine-based Netlist Inc., a computer memory products maker, jumped 9.2% to $2.73 apiece with an $858 million market cap (OTCQB: NLST). Today’s volume was a little over the daily average at 1,746,976.   

FIRST QUARTERS 

Shares of a few companies with Orange County ties are down on Monday ahead of this week’s first quarter reports. Callaway Golf Co., owner of Huntington Beach-based TravisMathew, fell 6.5% to $14.17 with a $2.6 billion market cap and will be releasing Q1 results on Thursday, May 7 (NYSE: CALY).  

Six Flags Entertainment Corp., owner and operator of Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, was down 5.7% to $17.79 apiece and a $1.8 billion market cap; the company is posting earnings on May 7 also (NYSE: FUN). Irvine-based Lantronix fell 4.5% to $6.76 per share ahead of its first-quarter report on May 6 (Nasdaq: LTRX).  

MARKETS/INDEXES 

The Dow 30 decreased 1.1% to 48,943.71. 

Gold fell 2.7% to $4,518.70 per ounce. 

Crude oil was up 4.2% to $106.22 a barrel.  

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.64% to 4.45%. 

EMPLOYMENT

HEALTHCARE

Alignment Healthcare Inc. fell 12% to $19.64 with a market cap of $4.1 billion (NASDAQ: ALHC). The Orange-based Medicare Advantage plan is experiencing heavy trading volume a day after posting $1.2 billion in Q1 revenue. The company forecast second quarter revenue from $1.29 billion to $1.31billion, with low end falling short of analysts’ average estimate of $1.31 billion.

TECHNOLOGY

Ingram Micro Holding Corp. fell 10% to $27.93 per share with a market cap of $6.4 billion (NYSE: INGM). The Irvine-based IT distribution and services company surpassed revenue and earning expectations after posting its latest Q1 earnings report. However, the drop could be driven “by a cautious near-term outlook and a significant cash flow drawdown tied to working capital investments,” according to Chartmill.

MEDICAL DEVICES

Shares of Pro-Dex Inc. dropped 9.1% to $45.61 with a market cap of $146.2 million (NASDAQ: PDEX). The Irvine-based maker of powered surgical instruments is trading above its normal volume.

MARKET/ INDEXES

The Nasdaq is up 1% at 25,135.05.

Crude oil is down 3.8% to $101.

HEALTHCARE

Glaukos Corp. jumped 20% to $140.30 per share and an $8.2 billion market cap. Shares in the Aliso Viejo-based medical device company are up after yesterday reporting first quarter results that exceeded analysts’ expectations (NYSE: GKOS).

TECHNOLOGY

TTM Technologies Inc. rose 11% to $152 with a market cap of $15.8 billion. The Santa Ana-based manufacturer of printed circuit boards yesterday announced that first quarter revenue increased 30.4% to a record $845.98 million for the quarter, beating the $783 million expected by analysts (NASDAQ: TTMI).

Lantronix Inc. was up 5.8% to $6.60 apiece and a $262 million market cap. The Irvine-based computer networking products maker today announced that it will debut two new technologies designed for autonomous and defense drones at the Xponential conference taking place May 11-14 in Detroit. Lantronix is also scheduled to report third quarter results on May 6 (Nasdaq: LTRX).

INDEXES

Crude oil fell 2% to $104.66 per barrel.

Gold rose 1.4% to $4,623.60 per ounce.
