5.11 Looks to Go Public

Irvine retailer and maker of tactical gear for military and law enforcement 5.11 ABR Corp. is looking to go public.

The company said it filed this week a confidential draft registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering.

5.11 is part of Westport, Conn.-based Compass Diversified (NYSE: CODI) which owns a portfolio of 10 business that includes circuit board maker Advanced Circuits, packaging and insulation company Altor Solutions and baseball and softball equipment and clothing company Marucci Sports.

Compass had a recent market cap of $1.8 billion.

5.11, which was started in 2003 as a spin off from outdoor brand Royal Robbins, came under the Compass family of businesses through a 2016 sale for $408.2 million.

The company has nearly 100 retail locations globally and a workforce of about 950.

5.11 ended last year with net sales of $401.1 million, up 3.2% from the prior year.
