Stance Socks Score NBA Deal

San Clemente-based Stance Inc. has signed a licensing agreement to become the official sock brand for the National Basketball Association.

The financial terms of the multiyear deal, which kicks off with the 2015 Samsung NBA Summer League in July, were not disclosed.

The deal makes Stance, “the league’s official on-court sock,” Clarke Miyasaki, executive vice president of business development, said in a statement. “We look forward to unveiling the entire lineup to NBA fans,”

Stance takes over for FBF Originals, a Martinsville, Indiana-based sock and footwear accessory manufacturer which had the NBA account since 2000 and also makes products for professional baseball, football, hockey, and American soccer leagues.

Miyasaki cited the company’s “innovative sock technology and unique style” in announcing the deal. Stance touts its products’ “cushioning, targeted compression and superior moisture wicking.” It plans to create team-specific designs, and limited-edition products for special events and holiday games.

The socks also will bear Stance’s logo, a league first for a uniform accessory, the company said. Players’ uniforms, for example, don’t carry the Adidas logo, whose apparel licensing agreement with the league is set to expire following the 2016-17 season.

Stance’s deal builds on its fashion line of socks that features Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird and Allen Iverson.

The company raised $50 million from private investors in March to expand into underwear and open six own stores in the next 12 months.
